The automatic, well-intentioned urge to spot someone’s problem and fix it for them. The term comes from William R. Miller and Stephen Rollnick and their work on motivational interviewing.
The trap is that the impulse comes from wanting to help, and it reliably makes the other person defensive. Reaching for the fix tells them you heard a problem where they were offering a feeling.

Read the Miller and Rollnick material properly and write this out. Worth connecting to user research, where the interviewer’s job is to evoke rather than to suggest, and to how it shows up in code review.
Shows up in Design thinking is a way of life as the thing I spent my early twenties doing to my friends.
